The Nuts and Bolts of Airfare Deals

Shopping for airline tickets has come a long way since the days of calling the airline companies directly to reserve your itinerary. The advent of the internet has given everyday consumers the ability to book airfares without the assistance of airline customer service representatives or travel agents. Here’s some information that will make you more knowledgeable about how to get the best deal when booking flights yourself online.
Have you ever seen the prices for a flight fluctuate drastically in the same day? This is because most airlines use robust, database driven software that factors historical purchase data along with current ticket supply and demand to determine ticket prices. For example, if a flight is selling out too fast compared with past flights for that same route, ticket prices will rise and vice versa. Prices are updated multiple times a day and even real-time in some systems.
Are you a business traveler? Airline companies are well aware that businesses are willing to pay more for airfares then the average consumer, so they commonly implement the “Saturday Night Stay Over†requirement to capitalize on them. If you’re a non-business traveler try to incorporate a Saturday night stay over to avoid this fee. If you’re on business, show your employer how much they’ll save by letting you stay the weekend, if you so desire.
What are the most inexpensive days to fly? Tuesdays and Thursdays are historically the cheapest days to fly, with Wednesdays and Saturdays being a close second. Fridays and Sundays are the most expensive. This all goes back to the aforementioned ticket demand data that helps determine ticket prices. The same holds true for seasonal popularity and “times of dayâ€. Flying red-eye during non-peak seasons is generally cheaper because those flights have less demand.
When is the best time to book my flight? Prices on last minute airfare can be highly volatile so try to book in advance. At the last minute, airlines know you’re desperate and are willing to pay more. However, occasionally the airlines are desperate to fill seats, so prices might decrease. For travel during popular holidays (i.e. Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving) and internationally try book at least three months in advance. Most travel sites recommend booking 7, 14 or 21 days in advance, but in my experiences the rates associated with these intervals usually get bought up way before then. So, even for domestic flights I start looking several months in advance.
One of the most important things to consider when traveling is to try to resist mainstream travel patterns. If you can avoid traveling during peak seasons, “days of the week†and “times of the day†you can experience substantial savings. If you can think “outside the box†when planning your trip, you can find the discount airfares the airlines were forced to mark down to ensure a sold-out flight.
Help answer the question about last minute hotel deals new
Should I really be concerned if I trust him? ?(Sorry this is so freaking long winded)
So my bf of a little over a yr has lots of friends – guy friends, girl friends, he is a social butterfly. It is probably because he is in a band as well. He even has some of his ex gf’s as close friends of his. So what you may ask is my point here? I guess I will just cut to it then!
On Monday he told me that one of his friends might be coming down from up north (different state back east) to visit for 4 days. This particular friend is an ex gf of his.
When he first told me I was a little shocked (I asked him “She is flying all the way here just to see little ol YOU???!” and he said ‘yup’)
Well, he is currently in school full time so I don’t get to see him much because of it. It seems as if the only time I can get his undivided attention is when he is between terms (every 3 or 4 months). I actually look forward to being able to hang out with out him obsessing over homework.
Anyways this time between next term is whin his friend is coming down. Anyways I guess a part of me is jealous because now he will be spending the time between terms showing her around town and such. (even though he invited me to go along)
And even more so I was mad because even though it was not all the way set in stone, I had mentioned to him (since about mid DEC) how I wanted to go snowboarding between his terms and stay overnight. And now that is out the window because she is coming to town!
I told him that I didn’t want to sound selfish but I thought we were talking about going skiing? What happened to that? And he told me that we can go (with her in tow, of course). I dunno, I was really looking forward to alone time with him (he lives with his parents & I live with 2 roommates). I dunno…I guess I feel that I was pushed aside or he just got caught up in this ‘last minute decision of having her come out’ (she is coming out in the end of FEB).
Then he told me that we could go the week after, but I told him it wouldn’t be the same because he would still be buried in his homework if we stayed up there.
So I guess yeah I may sound like I am just jealous, but I feel like he should of talked to me before just going off a whim like that. I know they talk all the time (he talks in front of me on the phone with her too,so its not like it is this big ol 'secret') I have heard a few months back about him saying she should come visit, but I just thought that was just polite talk not him being serious…lol
Anyways, so on top of all that (sorry this is getting long ya’ll!!)
Last night I found out that for sure she was coming down (her bf was giving her a hard time for coming down here with out him). I asked why she want to come down and he said that she wanted to get out of nowhereville and out of the cold (we live in a really big city and she lives up in the Midwest). Then he went on to tell me a little about her (since I have never met/talked to her I only saw her my space once before she blocked it) and how she wants to better her live and that she is thinking of moving out here…ect. He was saying that she was complaining how she doenst make that much money and whatever.
I then thought about it and asked ‘So did you buy her ticket?”…he paused and the said ‘yes, I figured it could be her Christmas present’. So I was thinking that was a little weird but not THAT big a deal since he has a little $ saved up.
Then I asked if he was paying for her hotel too and he said that she would probly stay at his parents house in his room. I looked at him funny and he laughed and said 'Im not gonna be there in the bed with her! Jesus, I’m sleeping on the couch or maybe my brother can let her use his room or something". I think that is a little weird but I guess it is not like he will be alone with her(since its not like he is at his apt…its his PARENTS place…lol).
Plus I trust that he would not do anything in that manner. But everyone I have talked to thinks is sounds weird. So now it is making me paranoid and I am not that type of person.
My bf is a really honest person and I don’t think he would ‘be’like that’. When we first both met we talked about how wrong it is to cheat on a person (we both had been screwd that way in the past) so I don’t think he would do that…
But a little piece of me has doubt, but I guess it is only natural I suppose??
Of anyone can give me some rantional advice and not "OMG! HE IS CHEATING, U IDOT' advice, Id appreciate it
Thx in advance

Shopping on travel sites is like shopping with coupons and planning to use your coupon when the store has its own sales so you get the stuff basically for free. It's worth it if you're motivated and have the time. Those last-minute deals on travel sites are hooks to get you to book right away. However, if you already know where you're going, then it is actually a good deal for you. It's kind of like flying on stand-by, but if the deals are worth waiting for and you don't mind taking a chance you can't get a booking where you want, go for it. Otherwise, it's better to be safe than sorry. I'm wondering, though, can you book now and cancel later if you get a last minute deal you want to take? If that's an option for you, you can beat them at your own game. In any event, I hope you have a wonderful vacation.

You should have asked that question several months ago unless money is no object. You're going to have a very difficult time finding inexpensive airline seats and hotels now, especially to popular destinations. The week between Christmas and New Year's is one of the most heavily traveled weeks of the year and the discounts sell out far in advance.
I formerly worked in the travel industry and I had to break the bad new to last minute travelers every year.
Good luck!

You are way late at this point, but you can try Ebay. Lots of people these days ticket share, meaning they buy a 5-day ticket (great savings) use 2 or 3 days themselves then sell the remaining days. You could do this yourself, but I would recommend putting it out on Ebay now and seeing if anyone bites for the last 3-days beforehand. The tickets are only good for 13 days from the first day used. Try the official Disney website for package deals. Also we stayed at Super 8 Katella for $40 per night so maybe check that out on Hotels.com. — Good Luck and Have Fun!

Actually with Priceline, you do name your price for hotels. Hotwire is similar.
